The area where the castle of Crevole rises was one of the principal feuds of the Sienese bishops of the 13th century. From the year1274 onwards although it maintained its full power over the feud, the bishops were subject to the obligation of militia for the Sienese Commune, and in 1387 they had to pay a tribute. Only in 1749 were the rights of the bishop abolished in the Murlo territory.
Although the town was an important feud centre, another important residence of the bishop was the Castle of Crevole, already existent during the constitution of the privileges but subsequently enlargened in accordance to the demands of the new owner. In the first years of the XIV° century the bishop Malavolti strengthened the structure, which was surrounded by a double boundary wall enriched with towers. Today all that is left is the tower on top of the hill and part of the boundary walls and is part of a farm.
